Bottineau Student Wins Trip To National Youth Tour

   Kylie Artz, a Bottineau High School junior, has been selected to represent North Central Electric Cooperative at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., this June.
   Artz, 17, is the daughter of Pete and Gigi Artz of Bottineau. She was selected as the winner of an essay competition to determine the Youth Tour representative. Artz was selected from 7 applicants. The essays were judged by the cooperative’s statewide association.
   The Youth Tour is an all-expenses paid, week-long trip and will provide Artz a close-up view of our U.S. government at work. In addition, tour participants get to see the sights of our nation’s capital, including the Capitol building, various national monuments, Arlington Cemetery, the Smithsonian and Mt. Vernon, among others. Tour participants usually get to meet with North Dakota’s Congressional delegation, too.
Each year, almost 1,500 teenagers from 45 states participate in the Youth Tour. Youth tour participants also learn about electric cooperatives, the cooperative way of doing business, and leadership skills.
   Artz is very active in school and community events. She is a member of the Bottineau Stars girl’s basketball team, and is statistician for both the high school football team and baseball team. She participates in both high school choir and band. She also belongs to the Spanish Club, Student Council, Pep Club, Science Club and participates in the Science Olympiad. She is also a Junior class officer. A gifted student, Artz carries a 4.0 grade point average and is a member of the National Honor Society.
   Artz really enjoys music and shares her muscial talents with the community by playing piano at church and various community events. In her spare time she likes to read, and hang out with her friends.
